From Bond to Verdi
Two musical highlights for May
The James Band are playing at Cafè Belgrado and its FREE entry (password is “shaken not stirred”).
I’ve seen them perform live before and they were fantastic. It’s not just James Bond themes, but lead vocalist Danielle (our very own Dutch-Catalan from Valldoreix, who you will bump into at Marías Pilates in Sant Cugat) absolutely nails Amy Winehouse, Dolly Parton and Miley Cyrus. We also get Wonderwall and some Stones.
The guitar, bass, drums and keyboard have great chemistry, a superb loud sound and dress to impress in their bowler hats, suits and ties. But it’s sixfoot Danielle, in her electric blue sequin dress that owns the room.
It’s a late one, but by the end of May, with days getting longer and hotter, you’d probably still be awake anyway and if you don’t have to be up early on Friday, it’s 100% worth it.
I’ll be there and if there are any actual or budding booking agents out there, sign them up, pay them and let some daylight crowds hear what the late nighters already know.
The James Band: For Your Ears Only
Thurday, 21st May, 23.00
Cafè Belgrado, Av. Rius i Taulet, 120
Tickets at 56€ for this three hour show and having seen their productions before, it might not be Covent Garden, but they are incredibly good and right here and not over 200€ you would pay for the same seat there.
If you cannot make it in Sant Cugat, they are also touring to Barcelona at Palau de la Música.
It´s well worth re-reading the January synopsis and tips on how to enjoy opera. If you have lost your hard copy, we have it online at www.simplysantcugat.com
Back in the January edition, I recommended Verdi’s La Traviata streamed direct from London’s Royal Opera House in Covent Garden to the cinema in Sant Cugat and it was well worth the 28€ tickets to watch the world´s best producers and performers.
But there is no substitute to live opera for which we have the Cor Amics de l`Òpera de Sabadell combining with the Orquestra Simfònica del Vallès bring the real thing to us to stage La Traviata at the Sant Cugat Teatre-Auditori on 15th May at 8pm.
La Traviata Live Opera
Friday, 15th May, 20.00
Teatre-Auditori, Pl. Victòria dels Àngels, 1
